  1. ELYSIA 9 - A black ink and gray color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size vellum paper. It appears in the book, "Elysia: the Coming of Cthulhu," by Brian Lumley, published by Ganley in 1989.

What you see here is an alien from outer space. He is fictional, of course, but what are the chances of there being real aliens in outer space?

These are the facts as I have come to know them from all the reading I have done on the subject; Our planet circles a star that is one of many that form a shape in outer space that is called the Milky Way Galaxy. There are an estimated 100 to 400 billion stars in the galaxy with probably as many planets orbiting around many of them. Our scientists have estimated that at least 1,000 of those planets may support highly intelligent life forms capable of technologies equal to or greater than ours. If any of them exist and have sent signals into space, as we have, our computerized-radio telescopes have not heard a beep out of them.

But there are billions of galaxies in the universe, each with billions of stars, so the mathematical estimate of possible planets with intelligent life forms in the universe is in the billions! - so why is it that not one of those intelligent races has acquired advanced technologically to the point of being capable of sending signals into outer space? Like we have, in search of other life forms in the universe?

The universe is so immense, the distances are so vast, that a million alien races existing on planets in various parts of deep space may, in fact be sending us those signals we are listening for. But even traveling at the speed of light, those signals may not appear within our area of space for some time to come.

    And if some day our astronomers begin hearing . . . Beep . . . Beep, Beep . . . Beep, Bee, Beep . . . Beep . . . Beep, Beep . . . Beep, Beep, Beep . . .

Our lives will change. Completely . . .
